Children of War

This video captures Children of War, a conceptual piece by n0mas. It was first thought of in 2021 as tensions within and throughout societies continued escalating at alarming speeds. N0mas sees a parallel between the decision-making process of certain leaders and governments to carry out what many interpret as harmful policies domestically and abroad, with the daily decisions we humans make at each moment of existence - manifesting a reality we believe inevitable and that we fall victim to. The liquid represents our perception and projection of reality. It starts out transparent, clear, and untainted. The ink represents the various data points we take on throughout life. It can be interpreted as the conditioning and external factors that influence our views, shape our behaviours and beliefs, and coerce, constrain or pressure us into certain actions. But is ink solely linked to external factors? Do global and individual actions also impact our clarity? Perhaps they feed off each other? This piece attempts to exemplify how the unconscious stored experiences impact the way with which we observe and take on reality. Is it our shadows, past traumas, and difficulty to act consciously amidst the chaos? Finally, as the ink disappears again, n0mas attempts to call for hope. For us to decondition our minds, must we search deeper within for the uncontaminated parts of ourselves? Those that allow us to see through the darkness, through the pain, the fears, the conditioning? To rise above it all?
